Dulcimer Classes and Teachers
The Hills of Kentucky Dulcimers club provides FREE beginner and intermediate level instruction for all paid members. Each series of classes consist of six, one-hour lessons that prepare each student to confidently play in group sessions and public performances. Upon completion of the beginning series, students will be given a copy of the club music packets that includes many traditional dulcimer tunes.
Beginner Level 1: Tom Depenbrock, instructor; Patty Smith, assistant
No experience necessary. This is an introductory level class focusing on those who have little or no knowledge of the mountain dulcimer. Experience with other instruments or knowledge of music is not required.
Beginner Level 2: Phyllis Whitt, instructor; Gail Michalack, assistant
This is for the players who have taken the Level 1 class.
Intermediate Level: Elaine Caldwell, instructor
The focus at this level is to practice basic dulcimer playing techniques, fine tuning those skills and building one's repertoire. Various tunes from the club music packets and new tunes are used so that students may confidently join in group sessions and perform at public events.
